Here are the Bergman kitties presented in no particular order of importance.  Each one is special.    These cats receive superb, compassionate care from Clifton-Centreville Animal Clinic in Centreville, VA.  And when we're on vacation Vicky Broderick comes to our home bringing love and attention as well as basic services.

sugar.jpg (6516 bytes)Sugar was named for the boxer, Sugar Ray.  While his littermate is a lover Sugar is a fighter, but only with other cats.  He is second in line to be Top Cat and feels that the time has come for him to take over this role.  Unfortunately, the reigning leader of this colony sees otherwise and is not about to give up his position yet.  So Sugar impatiently waits his turn and gets his satisfaction from interacting with people.  He is very much my cat, sweet, affectionate and devoted.  2007 - Sugar is a senior citizen now and the only male cat left in the house.  Unfortunately, he's forgotten all about his former desire to be Top Cat.

daphne.jpg (4376 bytes)Daphne was a kitten of about 7 weeks when she became a part of our family.  My daughter's friend knew of a neighbor with a bunch of kittens she couldn't find homes for and the litter was destined for the pound in the near future.  Sound familiar?  So my husband said that we would take one if there were a calico.  What luck, there was!  So Daphne came to live with us and I've never regretted it for a moment.  She's large, very vocal, and loves to give kitty kisses.  She also has a taste for coffee and eagerly waits for my husband to get his evening cup so she can join him.  Daphne's about 10 years old now and looking forward to many more healthy years.  My big loving calico kitty crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 29, 2004.  I miss her so much.

annie.jpg (5291 bytes)We found Annie in a local pet store one spring day about 12 years ago.  Kenny and I went in to buy cat food and there in a cage was an adorable litter of kittens, including 2 calicos.  Both of us have a special fondness for this particular color type so it was immediately understood that we weren't leaving without a new addition to our cat collection.  One of the calicos was a beautiful, gentle, longhaired kitten that was the obvious choice.  But, wanting to give both cats an equal chance, Kenny asked to hold Annie too.  Big mistake!  She dug her claws into Kenny's shirt and hung on for dear life.  She just wasn't going back in the cage!  Her trick worked and we went home that day with both calico kittens.  The longhaired one has since gone to live happily with my son but little homely Annie remains a welcome member of our cat family.  She's sweet, good natured and very friendly.  Every morning while we are cleaning up the cat room she jumps on Kenny's shoulder and rides around with him.  This is fine in the winter when bathrobes are thick and give good anchorage to little claws.  But summer robes are thin and Annie's company is not so well received.

zelda.jpg (4504 bytes)Zelda, last but not least.  She showed up on our back deck one summer evening, obviously in need of food.  So I fed her.  As anybody who has cats knows, if you feed it you own it.  I pretended for 2 days that she would eventually go away but that didn't happen.  So she moved indoors and has thanked me every day by supplying love and warmth on a cold winter's night.  Zelda enjoys attention, especially petting; food is her second priority Sadly, Zelda joined her family over the Rainbow Bridge on June 28, 2004 after a lengthy battle against several debilitating diseases.  She was a poster cat for courage and determination.
